One thing I loved about some 19th and 20th century novels was their use of one sentence summaries of chapters, often appearing in the Table of Contents, or at the beginning of the chapter. Lately I've been having fun creating inane chapter summaries as I read!
Imagine the possibilities for the inane and insane in a novel like, say, The World According to Garp.
